About the Event
Born to immigrants from Mexico, Adrian Martinez Chavez is a photographer who lives and works in New Haven, Connecticut.
His work focuses on immigrant communities living in the United States, specifically from his family’s point of view. Adrian’s family’s journey and life in the US serve as a source of inspiration in his work that revolves around ideas of love, labor, and assimilation through an intimate view of daily life in America.
Adrian received his BFA in photography from the University of Hartford’s, Hartford Art School where he was awarded the Isadore Berson Photography Award and the Alexander A Goldfarb Purchase Prize. His work has been exhibited regionally and nationally and can be found in public and private collections such as the Goldfarb Memorial Collection at the University of Hartford.
He has been the recipient of grants from the Connecticut Office of the Arts, The Greater Hartford Arts Council, and The New York Foundation for the Arts.
Adrian is currently an MFA candidate in Photography at Yale University's School of Art.
